UPTOWN Vitality Cafe
Uptown Family Enrichment Center’s Vitality Cafés bring community members together in a welcoming space to talk, reflect, and learn from one another. Through guided conversations, participants can explore their well-being, share their experiences, and build meaningful connections with others.
Vitality Cafés are open to adults, including parents, caregivers, family members, and other community members interested in strengthening their personal and family well-being. Whether you have something to share, want to hear from others, or simply need time to reflect and connect, you are welcome at the table. You do not need any special knowledge or experience to participate. Come as you are, share only what feels comfortable, and enjoy honest conversation with members of your community.
What Is A Café?
A Café is more than a gathering around a table. It is a structured, small-group conversation where community members can speak openly, listen to others, and learn from shared experiences.
Trained Café hosts guide the conversation using thoughtful questions. There are no “right” answers, and no one is required to speak. Participants are encouraged to share from their own experiences while respecting the experiences and perspectives of others.
Cafés are designed to create:
A welcoming and judgment-free environment
Meaningful conversations
Stronger community connections
Opportunities for reflection and personal growth
A space where every voice and experience is valued
What Is a Vitality Café?
Uptown FEC’s Vitality Cafés are offered using the Café model developed by Be Strong Families, which uses structured, peer-led conversations to build community, trust, and holistic well-being. A Vitality Café focuses on the different areas of life that contribute to our overall health and well-being. It is based on the idea that when individuals are supported and healthy, families and communities are stronger.
During the Café, participants use guided questions to explore the Six Domains of Vitality developed by Be Strong Families:
-
Caring for your body through rest, movement, nutrition, healthcare, and other healthy practices.
-
Understanding your feelings, managing stress, expressing yourself, and caring for your emotional well-being.
-
Exploring the beliefs, values, traditions, or practices that give your life meaning, hope, and purpose.
-
Building greater confidence and stability when managing money, household needs, goals, and unexpected expenses.
-
Considering how your home, neighborhood, workplace, and surroundings affect your comfort, safety, and well-being.
-
Developing healthy relationships, finding support, staying connected, and feeling a sense of belonging.
These areas are connected. A challenge or strength in one area can affect other parts of our lives. Vitality Cafés give participants an opportunity to reflect on those connections and learn from one another.
