Soft Launch
On August 29, UPTOWN Family Enrichment Center (FEC) officially introduced itself to the Williamsbridge and Baychester communities with a Soft Launch event. The day marked an important first step in building relationships with local families and sharing our vision for what UPTOWN FEC can be: a welcoming space where residents can connect, access resources, and strengthen their community.

While the event served as an introduction to the center, it was also a reflection of what UPTOWN FEC represents. At its core, the Family Enrichment Center model is built on the idea that strong families and strong communities go hand in hand. Since establishing our presence in Williamsbridge and Baychester, we have worked to create a space where families feel welcomed, heard, and valued. Every offering and conversation has helped shape the center into a place that reflects the strengths and needs of local residents.
Throughout our first year in the neighborhood, community members have played an essential role in that process. Their participation has guided the development of our programming and reinforced our commitment to creating opportunities that are meaningful and responsive to the community.
The Soft Launch gave us an opportunity to celebrate those relationships and recognize some of the individuals who have been part of this journey from the beginning. It was a chance to acknowledge the trust that families have placed in us and to highlight the collective effort that has helped UPTOWN FEC grow into the welcoming community space it is today. More than introducing ourselves, the event celebrated the connections that have already been built and the foundation we will continue to build upon in the years ahead.

Highlights From The Day
The day began with outdoor tabling activities designed to welcome residents into the space. Families stopped by to learn more about UPTOWN FEC, enjoy refreshments, participate in activities, and receive back-to-school supplies. Community members of all ages joined in mini games, with participants winning prizes throughout the morning.
As the event continued, attendees gathered for a presentation from UPTOWN FEC Director Joseph Urbina, who shared the center's vision and commitment to serving local families. The presentation highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for connection, support, and engagement within the community. It also provided an opportunity for residents to learn more about the offerings and programming available through the center.
A special part of the program was the introduction of this year's Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) members. These dedicated parents and caregivers play an essential role in helping UPTOWN FEC remain responsive to community needs and family voices. By sharing their perspectives and experiences, PAC members help shape the direction of the center and ensure that our work remains rooted in the community we serve.

Following the presentation, families came together for larger interactive activities inspired by our popular Family Face-Off offerings. Laughter, teamwork, and friendly competition filled the room as participants worked together and cheered one another on. The activities created opportunities for new connections while reinforcing the welcoming and family-centered atmosphere that UPTOWN FEC strives to create.
To close out the celebration, attendees participated in a raffle featuring a variety of prizes. Several lucky winners went home with exciting giveaways, including a go-kart, bringing the day to an unforgettable finish.
The Soft Launch was more than an event. It was the beginning of a new chapter for UPTOWN FEC and an opportunity to strengthen the relationships that will continue to guide our work. We are grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make the day such a success.
